| Good morning and Happy Mardi Gras, LSU fans. As we all know, sports never take a break for holidays. So, we're going to give you a little Fat Tuesday dose of Tigers sports even though many of you will be heading out to catch some beads and trinkets later on. Since LSU basketball (men's and women's) have been getting lots of attention and baseball is off to a strong start, we'll circle back to some football news today. After a one-year absence because of COVID, the NFL combine workouts begin Tuesday with nine former LSU standouts set to work out and interview with front-office executives, coaches and scouts over the next week or so. Among the group is record-setting kicker Cade York, who declared for the NFL draft after three solid seasons with the Tigers. Our Wilson Alexander takes a look at how rare it is for a kicker to leave school early and what York will need to do to open some eyes and get that much-anticipated call in the draft in late April. Shifting to basketball, Kim Mulkey's women's team is getting ready for the SEC tournament later this week and will play Friday night as the No. 2 seed. When the Tigers take the floor after a double-bye, they'll do so as the sixth-ranked team in the AP poll. LSU moved up two spots Monday after a week in which the Tigers topped Alabama and then held off Tennessee on the road Sunday to finish the regular season with a 25-4 mark. Meanwhile, Jay Johnson's baseball team checked in at No. 3 in two of the major polls Monday after dropping its first game at Louisiana Tech last week and then won four games over the weekend at home. Beat writer Leah Vann has some takeaways from the weekend series that saw the Tigers take two wins each over Southern and Towson State. And LSU student Reed Darcey, who covered all six of the Tiger softball team's games at Tiger Park this weekend, takes stock of where Beth Torina's team is after the first three weekends of the season.
