Good morning. The nation is abuzz after Luigi Mangione’s court appearance in New York City last Friday, where hundreds of supporters showed up in solidarity for the accused shooter and in defiance of the for-profit healthcare industry. Hyperallergic sent Brooklyn artist Danielle De Jesus to draw the man with the viral mug and she came back with a dollar-bill headshot sporting significantly better eyebrows than George Washington, photographs of the pomp and circumstance, and a personal account of the struggle to catch a glimpse of the in-demand defendant.

In the news, the effects of Trump’s attacks on DEI are beginning to be felt by museums as an exhibition of artists of African descent in Washington, DC, was allegedly cut due to withdrawn government funding. Staff Reporter Isa Farfan has the scoop.

Also today, don’t miss Editor-in-Chief Hrag Vartanian on the art of Sylvia Sleigh, our mid-month guide of shows to see in New York City, a street artist’s satirical anti-Elon Musk ads, and more.
