California lawmakers approved Assembly Bill 957, which would require courts to consider during custody cases whether a parent has affirmed their child's self-declared gender identity or gender expression. Critics worry that parents could lose custody if they do not "affirm" their gender-dysphoric children. Read more.
An unidentified woman has filed a lawsuit alleging that the New Jersey Department of Corrections and its prison staff failed to intervene when she was sexually assaulted by a biologically male transgender prisoner in a women's prison. Officials allegedly failed to take action against "sexually aggressive" trans inmates with "fully functioning male anatomy," with the suit noting that two other females became pregnant. Read more.
