Machinery Pete: Grain Trailers, Semis and Trucks ... Oh My!
 
In the past 12 months, Machinery Pete has seen 85 grain trailers sell for more than $40,000 at auction — 11 of which sold for $50,000. In 2018, only six grain trailers sold for more than $40,000 at auction. Why would buyers pay such high prices? They want machinery — now.
 
 

Why are prices so high? “In the last 24 months we have seen a stupid number of black swans,” says Josh Linville, director of fertilizer for StoneX. Even though the U.S. produces a large amount of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, we still import nearly 20% of our fertilizer needs, and the global market is shaky to say the least. For 2023, plan on fertilizer being an even bigger chunk of your production costs.

 
 

Be it technology or agronomic practices, farming tends to evolve over time into tangible results that slowly tug yields higher.

 
 

USDA says the organizations were selected for their proven track records working with farmworkers, meatpacking workers, and grocery workers. The funds amount to $600 per person and will be dispersed in the fall.
