Greetings, New Orleans food fans! This week, we learn that a beloved po-boy shop on Magazine Street is making a comeback. New Orleans chefs take it all off for a naked calendar — and a good cause. Aguasanta on Oak Street is the second location for founders of a popular Metairie taqueria, and the former home of Fair Grinds Coffee House has reopened as a breakfast cafe. Vote for your favorite New Orleans spot for fried chicken. Finally, Olivia Regard cooks up a taste of Maine: see her recipes for the state's signature lobster rolls and blueberry pie. 1. Po-boys, dressed. Mahony’s Po-Boys, on Magazine Street, represented a revival of the great New Orleans po-boy shop. Mahony’s closed in July, but now it’s returning with new owners who have the same aim. 2. Chefs, undressed? "Jiggly Bits: the New Orleans Naked Chefs Calendar" features portraits of New Orleans chefs in their restaurants, all in the buff (but artfully posed). The beneficiary: mental health services for those in the bar and restaurant industry. 3. Wait! There's more. The folks behind La Tia Taqueria and Cantina in Metairie have opened Aguasanta, starting with elements of the Mexican kitchen and adding influences from around the world. The family that runs Café Degas has opened Le Ponce across the street, in the former home of Fair Grinds Coffee House. And make sure you vote for your favorite in our readers' poll for the city's best fried chicken. 4. Maine courses. Olivia Regard spent the long Labor Day weekend in coastal Maine, where she experienced fresh steamed lobster rolls and sweet blueberry pie. Find her recipes here.
