The Maine judiciary defended a decision to reduce bail for a man who was later fatally shot during a police standoff. The debate pitted the man’s constitutional rights against the safety of a domestic violence victim.

A social service agency has proposed to build a 200-space child care center for Bangor. The single-story building would sit on about 2.4 undeveloped acres off Hillside Avenue, just north of the Hannaford on Broadway.

A Maine mansion owned by the head of VIP Tires is for sale at $7 million. The 0.3-acre lot boasts a sweeping view of Casco Bay and has deeded access to a private deepwater dock, a mooring field and a sandy beach.

Ellsworth police officers will soon be wearing body cameras. The department has had cruiser dash cams for several years and has been looking to incorporate body cams into the system.
