She planned to spend a month in Japan. Five months later, she still hasn’t made it back to Maine.

  • On March 10, when Mainer and motel owner Linda York Cook traveled to Japan to attend her son’s wedding, she thought she would be back home by mid-April. Now, more than five months later -- and after multiple flight cancellations, medical complications from her diabetes and countless logistical conversations about logistics with her husband -- she may finally be coming home.

  • Most Maine parents are confident their local schools can implement safety measures aimed at curbing the coronavirus’ spread when school starts this fall, but they don’t have confidence that students will follow the rules. That's among the findings from a state survey of parents and educators in advance of schools' fall reopening.
Survey shows most older Mainers won’t return to live events until there’s a COVID-19 vaccine
  • Some 51 percent of people who responded to a Maine Arts Commission survey last month said they would not want to attend performances in an indoor venue until a vaccine is available, though around 60 percent said they would feel somewhat comfortable attending an outdoor performance, provided there were seats and adequate spacing. The survey skewed heavily toward older Mainers.
