Maintaining a Vibrant Faculty

If the pandemic has a silver lining, experts say, it’s that it further exposed all the ways in which the current, two-tier model of the faculty – some on the tenure track, others with renewable contracts -- is not working. In an ideal scenario, all faculty members would have academic-freedom protections, departmental support, the resources to serve as mentors to students – particularly underrepresented, underprepared students -- and a rewards system that fostered excellent teaching. The future of your college or university depends on building and maintaining a vibrant faculty. Now is an ideal time to consider what that will take.

Building a Faculty That Flourishes will examine the current state of play, challenges facing the professoriate, and new workforce models that have emerged.
