Lake Michigan Blues: More than 30 million people rely on the Great Lakes for drinking water—10 percent of the U.S. population and 30 percent of the Canadian population.
Dear John,

Water, a miraculous molecule.

Life as we know it is possible because water bends the rules of chemistry.

If water were like any other molecule, where would we be? Oceans and lakes would freeze solid from the bottom up, and our bodies would explode at room temperature!

Water is the only substance on Earth with the ability to exist naturally in three states: as gas, liquid and solid.

Because of the strange and wonderful properties of the water molecule, rain falls, fluids rise to nourish plants and nature carries on the cycle of life. Sounds simple, but a closer look reveals it’s amazing - like water itself.

This “miracle molecule” inspires us at Circle of Blue, where every day we explore and reveal how water runs through health, energy, food, climate, the economy and the environment.

At this time of year when we celebrate the miracles of light and life, we hope you will think of the humble, the powerful, the extraordinary presence of water in your everyday world.

And we hope you will help us make a difference in your water future.

Thanks for your support,
- Carl
