2023 highlights, made possible with support from people like you: Economic Studies: Senior Fellow Aaron Klein led discussions on the collapse and rescue of regional banks, including the now infamous Silicon Valley Bank. His work received bipartisan attention in U.S. Senate letters and committee hearings. Foreign Policy: Hosted a vital convening at Brookings about the "Russia Challenge" and the Russia-Ukraine war's first anniversary, featuring former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, and Senior Fellow Fiona Hill. Governance Studies: Senior Fellows Elaine Kamarck and Norman Eisen tracked over 300 "election deniers" from the 2022 election cycle. They revealed that 66% of election deniers won their races, highlighting the need to support and reinforce democratic institutions, particularly at the state level. Global Economy and Development: Vice President and Director Brahima S. Coulibaly and Senior Fellow George Ingram shared key insights on sovereign debt relief, development in conflict-affected states, and food security with the U.K. Parliament's International Development Committee. Brookings Metro: Fellow Tonantzin Carmona's research challenging narratives about cryptocurrencies and financial inclusion was referenced by legislators, regulators, and advocates, and informed legislation regulating crypto and protecting consumers. This is just a snapshot of our critical work this year. Explore the recently released 2023 Annual Report for even more stories of impact and make your year-end gift today!
