Check out some of our favorite science happenings!

On Sunday night, December 13, countless meteors will shoot across the sky as space particles burn up in our atmosphere and meet a fiery end. This meteor shower, which is likely to be the most spectacular of the year, strikes every December and arises not from a flamboyant comet but from an ordinary asteroid

For the first time in almost half a century, scientists are going to get their hands on new moon rocks. The lunar samples will come from a site that was volcanically active relatively recently.

Hot blue stars kicked out of their cradles may explain a mysterious ultraviolet glow that surrounds the disks of many spiral galaxies. The bright, young, runaway stars are located in regions where gas is too tenuous for new stars to form.

Leaf-cutting worker ants might look like they’d be helpless against an enemy soldier ant many times their size. But some of the smaller ants have a secret: Their entire body is coated with a thin but tough layer of mineral armor.
