Decisions about your health — including decisions about complementary health approaches — are important. If you’re considering trying a complementary approach, here are some points to consider: 

  • Has the approach been shown to be helpful for your condition? Find out what scientific studies have been done on the approach that interests you. 
  • Have you discussed the approach with your health care providers? They may be able to give you information that would help you make a decision.  
  • If you’re considering a dietary supplement or herbal product, make sure you find out about potential side effects or interactions with medicines you’re taking.
