Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

South Carolinians, and hardworking Americans across the country, rise every day determined to create opportunities and strengthen our economy. Yet, Washington Democrats continue to implement policies that push the American Dream further out of reach. Families are struggling not only to put food on the table as costs continue to rise, but also to feel safe in their own communities, all due to the failed policies of the Biden-Harris administration. Every American family deserves the chance to thrive without the fear of illegal immigration harming our communities, a crippling economy, and American jobs fleeing the country. Republicans are committed to restoring the safety, affordability, and security for the American people, making the American Dream accessible to all.

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Acts 20:35

Continuing to Fight for Affected Communities

Communities across South Carolina and neighboring southeastern states are working hard to recover from Hurricane Helene and Milton. This recovery demands every effort possible to get us back on our feet, and our communities cannot do it alone. Congress should take the opportunity to show leadership and help ease the pain of those who have lost everything. That’s why I am championing a bill to replenish the SBA Disaster Loan Program, providing essential assistance to families and small businesses as they continue their recovery.

Demanding an Answer from the Biden-Harris Administration

Every day that President Biden and Vice President Harris fail to secure our southern border is a day they choose to jeopardize our national security and the safety of American families. Over the last four years, this administration has disregarded the rule of law, undermined border security, and incentivized illegal immigration. I joined Senator Jim Risch and nine other Republican colleagues in demanding answers from the administration for their direct role in fueling a national security crisis at the southern border through a series of destructive executive orders.

Endpoint News: Bipartisan letter questions FDA’s ‘narrow’ interpretation for priority review vouchers

By Zachary Brennan

October 28, 2024

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL) are questioning the FDA’s “narrow” interpretation of “active ingredient” when it comes to awarding the potentially lucrative priority review vouchers.

The letter, dated last Thursday and addressed to FDA Commissioner Rob Califf, focuses on the two FDA approvals of sickle cell gene therapies in late 2023. It explains how FDA’s recent administration of the PRV program — granting a PRV to one of the sickle cell gene therapies but not the other — “may not be fulfilling the program’s promise, original vision, and intent.”

Scott and Davis question FDA on why it “made an initial decision to narrowly interpret the definition of ‘active ingredient’ in the PRV statute, resulting in the unexpected denial of at least one pediatric PRV.” But they also note that FDA “may be in the process of reconsidering its interpretation” so they want to make their thoughts clear.
