On this day in 1978, Black Mountain Tower began its service as the television transmitter between Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra and long-distance phone calls. Supervising engineer of Telecom's radio communications construction branch in NSW, Brian Penhall said Telecom equipment had been moved from the Red Hill station to the tower ready to begin its role.  READ MORE
