| | | | Being Effective At Home: How to tap into connection, calm, and self-kindness | | Wherever you are and whatever your circumstances, the COVID-19 outbreak has almost certainly caused significant changes to your daily routines. For many, this includes a new work environment: home. While this can be a welcomed change, it can also present new challenges. As we adapt to our new reality, often filled with virtual meetings, it is important to continue nurturing our mind, body, and spirit, especially during these stressful times. Mind-body techniques, such meditation, yoga, and tai chi, are powerful tools to boost productivity, reduce physical discomfort, and cope with the rapid pace of change. Here are four tips for how to incorporate mind-body self-care throughout your day at home: Mornings are the perfect time for a simple mindfulness practice to clear your head. Since you’re no longer leaving home to go to work or drop kids off at school, consider doing this guided Mindful Walking Meditation as your “commute.” You only need five or six feet of space. Feeling frazzled by 11am? Instead of pouring another cup of coffee, take 10 or 15 minutes for a mid-morning meditation. This Mindful Breathing Meditation is just the thing to help you re-center and continue with your day. Sitting at your desk or on the couch for hours at a time can leave you with a headache and with stiff, tight muscles. Move away from your computer or phone to give your eyes a much-needed rest and try this simple acupressure point for relief. You may be missing your gym or other exercise routine. Our series of exercise and tai chi videos can be done at home and will help you stay physically active when you “leave” the office for the day. | | | |
