Construction begins on Walmart distribution center

State, county and port officials along with the executive vice president of Walmart’s U.S. supply chain, broke ground on the $220 million Walmart Ridgeville Import Distribution Center 7. The 3-million square-foot storage and cross-dock facility will be one of Walmart’s largest distribution centers. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)

Boeing cuts 787 production outlook further

With slow recovery for travel and less demand for widebody jets, Boeing CFO Greg Smith said the company will cut production even further from its originally plan of six starting in mid 2021. Earlier this year Boeing announced consolidation of 787 manufacturing to its Dreamliner campus in North Charleston. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)

Century Aluminum gets 3-month contract extension

Santee Cooper’s board of directors has given the Mt. Holly aluminum smelting plant until March 31 to continue its contract and negotiate new terms. In October, Century Aluminum threatened closure if it didn’t receive better electricity rates. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)

Greenville brazing company doubles capacity with new press

Accurate Brazing will double its capacity for brazing services for the aerospace and medical industries with a second hot isostatic press in February. The press uses high temperatures and the pressure of gas to compact metals and reduce air bubbles that may have formed in the material. (GSA Business Report)

SCANA settles Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit

SCANA will pay a $25 million penalty and SCANA and SCE&G will pay $112.5 million in disgorgement plus prejudgment interest. The SEC alleged the companies defrauded investors through false statements regarding the V.C. Summer project. (Columbia Regional Business Report)
