Financial adviser: Many executives not ready for retirement

Robert DeHollander, managing partner of DeHollander & Janse Financial Group of Greenville, said he sees it all the time: executive level men and women who haven't put much thought into a retirement plan for themselves and are not quite ready for a sudden decline of income.

Metcalf: Manufacturing has changed state

There are more than 5,000 manufacturing facilities in South Carolina. And since 2011, about 66,000 manufacturing jobs have been announced, representing $27 billion of capital investment, according to Max Metcalf, chairman of the S.C. Manufacturers Alliance.

More than $7M in community development funds awarded

More than $7 million in Community Development Block Grant funding has been award to 21 S.C. communities for public improvement projects. The S.C. Department of Commerce awards the funds in the fall and spring of each year to projects selected through a competitive process.

10 S.C. schools receive environmental education grants

Ten S.C. schools, including two in the Upstate, have received grants from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control to promote environmental education efforts.
