A victory that slightly stings |
The Detroit Lions came out strong Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, opening with a 27-6 lead heading into halftime. Then, the worst happened. Star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson broke his right tibia while sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the third quarter. He will undergo immediate surgery. Afterwards, the Lions continued to score and blew the Cowboys out of the water with a 47-9 win, marking their first victory against Dallas in more than a decade. With Marcus Davenport already out for the season, the Lions are now without their top two edge rushers heading into next week’s NFC North showdown against the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings. |

Interactive Michigan map shows high volume of 2024 presidential campaign stops |
With less than one month remaining until Election Day, Michigan has hosted nearly 40 events — and counting — featuring former President Donald Trump or his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris or her running mate, or President Joe Biden before his July exit from the race. Not done yet: Former President Barack Obama will be swinging through Michigan later this month and Vice President Kamala Harris is making campaign stops in the state this week. Competing for a $100,000 state investment: From electric-powered boats and cargo trikes to safer scooters, four finalists have been selected in Michigan’s first “Shark Tank” style competition. |

After Tigers’ whirlwind finish, take a breath and reflect on season to remember |
Bright future: There was something refreshing about the end-of-season Detroit Tigers clubhouse after their loss in Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Saturday in Cleveland. There was disappointment, sure, but no anger, no tears. Even that twinge of sad nostalgia that normally accompanies end-of-season goodbyes wasn’t really present. The players who ended the 2024 season wearing Tigers uniforms are almost universally young. Every single one is under contract for next season. It’s fair to expect that the vast majority of these guys will be reconnecting in Lakeland, Fla., in about four months. It took the Detroit Red Wings only 48 hours to plug the leaky holes in their defense and goaltending in their season-opener. Nashville threw everything but the kitchen sink at them on Saturday. Cam Talbot stopped 42 shots, and his teammates blocked 31 others in a 3-0 victory at Little Caesars Arena. In college basketball: Facing Tom Izzo's alma mater, Michigan State rolled to a 70-53 victory against Northern Michigan in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon at the sold-out Superior Dome in Marquette. |

‘I feel great today,’ says first West Michigan cancer patient to receive new treatment |
Groundbreaking: West Michigan is making strides in cancer treatment thanks to new technology. University of Michigan Health-West in Wyoming is the first health system in the region to treat a patient with histotripsy, a new cutting-edge noninvasive technology that uses ultrasound energy to precisely destroy liver tumors. Baby born in brewery parking lot: A 'Special Delivery’ in a Kalamazoo brewery parking lot inspired a newborn’s middle name and a new beer brewed with assistance from his parents, Aaron and Kyle Baker. In education: These 9 Michigan public school libraries have been named the best in the state. |
