Mari Craig has been painting for the last four years and is passionate about abstract expressionist painting. She loves to infuse color with life and paints mainly on a subconscious/unconscious level. She has exhibited her art at VisArts, The Meeting House Gallery, Glenview Mansion, Leisure World Gallery, Friendship Heights Community Center and the Chevy Chase Women's Club. She is also a poet and some of her paintings have poetry that she has written about her paintings and vice versa.
Ms. Craig has a philosophy of art with the objective of creating an atmosphere in a painting that reflects warmth, light and positive space. Her intent is to give the audience a sense of a new beginning a sense a turning point; of a new beginning. Conceptually, Ms. Craig thinks of daybreak, a change in direction a flower, plant or tree seedling emerging, blossoming or bearing fruit. Through shapes and lines she creates a sense of wonder. Through different values, tones and textures. Ms. Craig's paintings have a sense of unity and depth with seamless transitions. Her compositions are unique having a sense of balance and proportion in a pattern that has a singular rhythm of its own.
