Intriguing Paintings by Marion Hedger
A lifelong love of colour and design have enabled Marion to develop a very distinctive style. Largely self-taught (with help from many on-line workshops), Marion's early works focused on impressionist paintings of landscapes and florals.
In the last few years, Marion has transitioned to a bold abstract style. Marion's creative process is a mixture of intentional and spontaneous mark making with bold shapes and colours producing intriguing abstracts when viewed from afar, and with lots of eye entertainment on closer inspection.
"I usually don't have a preconceived idea when I begin and start by adding several layers of colourful paint. As I go, I add texture by scraping, gouging and sanding back to reveal previous layers and colours. Gradually, after several layers the painting comes to life and I have to stay aware of how the surface is reacting and guide the process towards the finishing post. The final marks are carefully considered, with awareness that they are the glue which holds the painting together. I know a painting is finished when it is eye catching from afar but will hold the viewer's attention close-up."
Marion, originally from the UK, now lives in south-eastern France near Nice. With easy access to the lavender and sunflower fields and the start of the French Alps, the colours and shapes of the area shine through her work.
