It’s no secret that the rate of marriage as a traditional institution is declining. In fact, in his article, “Can the Church Save Marriage,” Mark Regnerus writes that as culture changes and trends more toward co-habitation and overall singleness, there is an opportunity for the global church to remind people what marriage is about.
As believers, we are called to be an example of how to live a life rooted in depth and truth, and this arena of marriage is not only an opporunity for living out our faith but truly exemplifying to the world around us what it means to be self-sacrificing, loving, and humble. Marriage isn’t always perfect, but it does lean into commitment instead of independence. Through imperfect but faithful choices to serve one another consistentley, give of ourselves when we don’t always want to, and join together in the days ahead, Christian marriage just might be a vehicle for the Gospel to be proclaimed now more than ever.
