Leadership Insight | Match results highlight future of medicine | A record number of medical school students and graduates applied for residency positions this year, according to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). More than 38,000 applicants competed for 35,185 positions. The number of first-year positions also hit a new record of 32,194, almost 2,000 more than last year. One of the reasons for the increase in positions was osteopathic programs joining the Main Residency Match as part of their transition to ACGME accreditation, states the NRMP. |
