See Music, Hear Dance: An Interview with Body Music | What was the first kind of music early humans created? We’ll never know for sure, but co-director of Body Music, Keith Terry, is inclined to think its music made with just one shared instrument—the human body. Singing, clapping, snapping, stomping, Body Music will ignite Sanders Theatre with a range of body-created music Saturday, May 5, as part of their inaugural United States tour. In anticipation of the one-night-only performance, Terry answered a few questions for us about Body Music’s virtuosic journey and cultural vibrancy.

Students Learn the Power of Storytelling through Song | Last December, Celebrity Series' Neighborhood Arts program hosted a three-day songwriting workshop for a group of fifth graders from the Sumner Boys and Girls Club after school program. Led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Guy Mendilow alongside violinist and composer Chris Baum and singer, pianist, and composer Courtney Swain, the workshop emphasized giving students tools to share their unique stories.
Now, four months later, these stories provide the foundation for a song that the students and teachers recently recorded in Roslindale. Watch the video of this fun and empowering learning experience!

Barr Foundation Announces ArtsAmplified: Powerful Art. Bold Leadership. Vibrant Communities. |  Celebrity Series is pleased to share that we have been selected to participate in the Barr Foundation’s ArtsAmplified initiative, announced on May 1.
ArtsAmplified is a $30 million, six-year initiative of the Barr Foundation's Arts & Creativity program. It features partnership with 15 large and mid-size arts organizations across Massachusetts dedicated to creating art and arts experiences that strengthen communities. The goal of ArtsAmplified is to enhance the capacity of these organizations to continue leading in their communities and fields, and to collectively generate fresh insights that inspire other nonprofits and funders.
The initiative is multi-faceted, and centers on the confluence of four concepts Barr considers vital to the future of arts organizations: artistic excellence, relevance, risk taking, and civic leadership. ArtsAmplified grantees will engage in collective, ongoing conversation anchored in these notions—bringing their unique experiences and visions to the investigation. Over the next six years, each partner will manifest these concepts in practice through at least one ambitious project with significance to its future.

What's Next for Celebrity Series' Public Performance Projects Initiative | Celebrity Series of Boston is continuing its commitment to bringing exciting public performance projects to the Boston community that encourage participation in the arts. As part of this effort, we’ve launched a nationwide search to find innovative and engaging public art initiatives to bring to the streets of Boston. Artists of all types are invited to submit project proposals that conceive the entire city as a canvas for participatory arts activities in an effort to promote the Celebrity Series’ vision to utilize the performing arts to enrich and transform lives and build better communities.
To help us in our search, we’ve teamed up with public arts consultant, Ricardo Barreto, who brings decades of experience working for a variety of cultural organizations and initiatives.
What makes this call for new work so unique? With a rich perspective on the subject, Mr. Barreto answered a few of our questions on the importance of this Celebrity Series’ initiative.

Jagged Little Pill | Jagged Little Pill tells an original story inspired by the themes and emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette's Grammy Award-winning album that introduced beloved anthems, including "Ironic," "You Oughta Know," and "Hand in My Pocket." Following a family grappling with uncomfortable truths about many of the urgent issues deeply affecting our communities and our world today, this world premiere musical is directed by Diane Paulus (Waitress, Finding Neverland, Pippin, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) and features a book by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno).
