Local Student Singers Shine on Stage with Kristin Chenoweth | We're still smiling from Kristin Chenoweth's spectacular performance last Sunday evening celebrating her latest album, The Art of Elegance. Joined by musical director/pianist and Worcester native Michael Orland, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer performed classics from her album, as well as Broadway favorites, in a delightful evening of witty patter and song.
For the finale, Chenoweth invited 12 students from the Boston City Singers and Boston Conservatory at Berklee to join her in singing powerful renditions of "Upon This Rock" and "I Was Here." For these aspiring singers, this was an especially thrilling opportunity to work with an industry idol in Boston's most storied concert hall. #75KDay Celebrates Arts for All! at Alvin Ailey | Last Saturday marked a special milestone for our Arts for All! program: The matinee audience included the 75,000th student to attend an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance since 1990, when we began offering free and discounted tickets to Alvin Ailey performances. Ahead of the performance, Alvin Ailey Artistic Director Robert Battle gave a curtain speech that recognized the 200 students in attendance and reminded the audience of the importance of the performing arts.
Following the performance, a select group of students from Boston Arts Academy and the Mattapan Teen Center were invited backstage to meet Battle and several company dancers. Watch a recap video of the afternoon.
