Maye Musk has loved spending time in South Africa after receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of the Free State last week.
Speaking to News24 on Saturday, Dr Musk said: "It was wonderful to return to South Africa, hear the accent, speak Afrikaans, enjoy the sense of humour, and especially see many colleagues in Bloemfontein."
After attending a graduation ceremony in Bloemfontein, where she studied and lived with her three kids, Elon, Kimbal and Tosca, Musk travelled to Cape Town, where she met with Miss South Africa 2014, Rolene Strauss.
In a video shared on Strauss' social media, the pair embrace while Strauss points out a few things they share in common.
"We are from Kovies, we are South African, then, the other thing is, something that very few people might know, and that is that you actually speak Afrikaans," Strauss says before Musk agrees. "Ek kan Afrikaans praat."
