Dear Reader,
Take a Moment gives children, parents, caregivers, and teachers ideas for introducing more mindful moments into their lives. Mindfulness activities can help us all to be more focused, deal with worries, reduce stress, and build empathy. These quick and simple activities explore breath, senses, emotions, and appreciation, and can be used at any time of the day.
The book is broken into five easy-to-use sections: Mindful Breath and Body, Mindful Looking and Listening, Mindful Tasting and Touching,Mindful Emotions and Mindful Appreciation. Each section includes advice as well as practical activities. There are also one-minute exercises perfect for teachers, parents and children with short attention spans.
Here is an example of one of the 50 fun mindfulness activities you will find inside:
Hug and hop: - Wrap your arms around yourself, give a little squeeze and see if you can notice what that feels like. Let go and let your arms come back to your sides. How does your body feel after the hug? Tingly? Warm? Something else?
- Now, hop on the spot, as high as you like, about ten times. Stop hopping and stand still, noticing how your body feels now. What’s your breathing like? Give yourself a good ten seconds to notice this. Then, hug yourself again and pay attention to how that feels.
- Continue moving between hugging and hopping for about a minute, noticing as many sensations in your body as possible.
