Mayor delivers message on her successes, plans for the future

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome used her "State of the City" address to tout her successes and spell out her administration's goals for the year on issues such as public safety, economic development and infrastructure.

She also highlighted a 34% decrease in gun violence over the past two years and the appointment of new Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr.

The Baton Rouge mayoral election will take place Nov. 5.

Gov. Jeff Landry has repealed a policy that allowed high school seniors seeking to graduate to appeal if they fail state standardized tests.

Louisiana is one of nine states that has such a standardized testing requirement, and it is the only one that does not have an appeals process.
