Following the United Kingdom's referendum on membership of the European Union, held in June 2016, the so-called Brexit decision has raised fresh questions for British citizens living and working in the Netherlands, as well as for businesses in the Netherlands employing Brits.

The City of Amsterdam, Expatcenter Amsterdam, amsterdam inbusiness and StartupAmsterdam are keen to ensure that all professionals and businesses active in Amsterdam who may be affected by the Brexit decision remain up to date with the latest news and are aware of any potential policy changes as soon as they become clear.

For that reason, a Brexit Information Point has been installed at the Expatcenter Amsterdam, which will help to answer any questions raised by employees, employers and HR professionals directly affected by any future policies. In the context of the United Kingdom's possible withdrawal from the EU, we would also like to invite British citizens working in Amsterdam to attend a special 'Mayor's Meeting', taking place at Amsterdam City Hall on Monday, 18 July. Representatives from the Expatcenter will be joined by Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam, to discuss the Brexit situation in person.

Amsterdam's Mayor and Alderpersons feel strongly about the importance of international talent for the prosperity and diversity of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. As such, they are determined to work closely with British citizens, businesses and HR professionals, alongside organisations such as the Expatcenter and amsterdam inbusiness.

The purpose of the 'Mayor's Meeting' is to tackle the most prominent questions from British citizens based on what is currently known, as well as learning more about the concerns of those who may be affected by any policy changes. Although only the first step in a process, the overarching goal is to best determine how any future issues can be positively resolved for employees and employers alike.
