Soccer fans, you may be tempted to buy shares in your favourite football club, provided it is one of the few examples of clubs that are listed on public markets. A quick look at Manchester United's recent numbers may put you off though, which is probably a good thing. The only people who make money from football clubs are the footballers themselves.
In addition to this story, there's also some interesting strategic news from Ralph Lauren and Salesforce. Finally, Barclays is being sued for something that is downright shocking - an issuance of debt far beyond the limit approved by regulators.

A calm in the storm
After a wild few days, TreasuryONE notes that yesterday was a calmer day in the markets. The rand traded in a 15-cent range and seems comfortable below the R18 handle to the dollar. We will need a series of positive rand sessions before concluding that it is overstretched against the dollar.
With not much data out of the US this week, the market will be focused on the eurozone on Friday with inflation numbers due. Rampant inflation could see further pressure on the euro and the European Central Bank to hike more aggressively into an already weak economy. There's a good chance that Friday could be a rough day for the euro.
