Situational Analysis | September 13, 2023

It's Wednesday and National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day. 👩🏼‍🍳 Have fun with that.

What You Need to Know

  • House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. McCarthy claimed Biden profited off his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings with foreign entities, and that Biden gave his son and other family members “special treatment.” In 2019, McCarthy said the House must ‘intend to hold a vote of the full House authorizing an impeachment inquiry,’ or it ‘would create a process completely devoid of any merit or legitimacy.' He did not hold a vote yesterday. All of Utah's delegation, minus Chris Stewart who did not respond to a request for a comment, support the investigation. All GOP presidential candidates also support the inquiry

  • Gov. Cox, other bipartisan governors plan to tackle immigration as part of his ‘Disagree Better’ campaign. “Immigration is a federal issue — the Constitution makes that very clear — but states play an important role,” he said. “We think that we can give some cover to Congress as they start to work on this because there are things that people agree on.”
