Comcast said it will spend nearly $100 million over the next three years to expand its fiber and coax networks to "diverse" areas of downtown Chicago.  more
WHY THIS MATTERS: The network expansion comes as the MSO, which currently offers an FTTP-based 2-Gbps broadband service in the area, prepares to launch gigabit services via DOCSIS 3.1 there later this year.

Wheeler: FCC Won't Change Retrans Negotiations Test
FCC chairman Tom Wheeler said Thursday that the FCC will not add any new, specific categories of de facto bad-faith behavior to its test for good-faith retransmission-consent negotiations, going against the wishes of cable operators, which had hoped to add blackouts and joint negotiations to the mix. more
WHY THIS MATTERS: In a victory for broadcasters, who had argued the retrans system is working and did not need tweaking, Wheeler said, "Based on the staffs careful review of the record, it is clear that more rules in this area are not what we need at this point."
