EU settlement scheme report The application scheme for European nationals and their family members living in the UK opened on Saturday 30th March. The Home Office has published guidance in English and in 15 other languages to date, though translations are expected for all EU 23 languages soon. CCLC was part of the testing process of this scheme to see how and if it functioned for vulnerable children, young people and families. We published the findings from this work, including a series of recommendations to local and national government, in a report last month. Read 'Uncertain futures: the EU settlement scheme and children and young people’s right to remain in the UK' for more information. Alongside this we have published guidance for individuals making applications under the scheme and for those working with European national looked after children and care leavers. Law Commission consultation on the Immigration Rules The Law Commission is looking for feedback from people who have used the Immigration Rules or made applications to the Home Office. The Immigration Rules have been criticised by people, including senior Judges, for being too complicated. The Commission has a detailed consultation paper, but for people with first-hand experience and without much time, they have broken this down into three key questions. What is your experience of using the Immigration Rules? Do you think that they should be made easier to understand? What type of mistakes do you think are made by people making applications? What is your experience of using application forms? Do you think that online application forms help? What would make application forms and the online system better? Responses can be sent directly to the Law Commission by emailing immigration@lawcommission.gov.uk before the deadline on 26 April 2019. You do not have to give the Law Commission your name when you do this, but please tell them how you heard about the consultation. Immigration fees will not rise in April CCLC are pleased to announced the fees for immigration and nationality applications will not be going up in April 2019. Fees normally rise annually, but will not be going up next month. This is a much-needed win for young migrants, who must still pay eye-wateringly high fees every two and a half years on a long pathway to settlement, or to access British citizenship. The Home Office is expected to publish a report into these fees by the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration on 4 April 2019.
