Click here Wednesday 22 June, 2022 MEDIA ADVISORY First International Health Regulations (2005) Emergency Committee regarding the multi-country monkeypox outbreak The first meeting of the Emergency Committee (EC) convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) regarding the multi-country monkeypox outbreak, is set to be convened on Thursday, 23 June from 12:00 pm CEST. It is a closed meeting. The Emergency Committee is expected to issue a statement in the days following the meeting. The statement will be shared with the media when posted on WHO website, together with links to photo and video material from the meeting at HQ in Geneva. The Emergency Committee will provide its views to the WHO Director-General on whether the event constitutes a public health emergency of international concern -- and if so, it will propose temporary recommendations on how to better prevent and reduce the spread of the disease and manage the global public health response. ************ There have been 9 IHR emergency committees so far, including two ongoing ones on polio and COVID-19.
