Click here 10 May, 2023 MEDIA ADVISORY The Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly convenes 21–30 May 2023 The Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly (WHA76) takes place from 21-30 May 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. The theme of this year’s Health Assembly is “WHO at 75: Saving lives, driving health for all.” WHA76 will kick off with Walk the Talk starting at 08:30 CEST on 21 May at Place des Nations. The official WHA76 opening will take place at the Palais des Nations at 14:00, with a High-Level Welcome. · A review of WHOs work in health emergencies, including the International Health Regulations and strengthening WHO preparedness for and response to health emergencies; · Strategies and global action on areas such as women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health, rehabilitation, universal health coverage and primary health care, traditional medicine, infection prevention and control, substandard and falsified medicines, health of refugees and migrants, non-communicable diseases, mental health, social determinants, nutrition and disabilities; · Approval of the WHO Programme Budget for 2024/2025, including the decision to increase assessed contributions and other matters emanating from the Working Group on Sustainable Financing. Included in the agenda are daily Strategic Roundtables (22-27 May) which will bring together delegates, partner agencies, representatives of civil society and WHO experts to discuss key global health priorities. Sessions are from 13:00 to 14:15 CEST and can be followed online. The WHO Director-General's opening speech on Sunday, 21 May (at approximately 2 pm) and his address on Monday, 22 May (at approximately 10 am) will be webcast on WHO’s website and social media channels, including Twitter. On Friday, 26 May at an awards ceremony, the WHO Director-General will be joined by representatives of five global foundations, to present five public health awards and prizes to the seven laureates for 2023. They come from Bahrain, China, Guatemala, Lebanon, Nepal, Thailand and The Philippines. Follow WHO information about the awards here: public health prizes and awards. Held annually in Geneva, it is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The Assembly's main functions are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget.
