Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released several publications on Medicaid long-term services and supports (LTSS) users and expenditures. These publications discuss LTSS rebalancing trends and patterns in users and expenditures for different home and community-based services (HCBS) and institutional care, nationally and across states for 2019–2021. In addition to detailed tables of results, a methodology document, and information about LTSS data quality, summaries of key findings are included in three briefs:

  • “Trends in the Use of and Spending for Home and Community-Based Services as a Share of Total LTSS Use and Spending in Medicaid, , 2019–2021”
  • “Medicaid Long-Term Services and Supports Use and Expenditures by Service Category, 2019–2021,” and
  • “Characteristics of People Using Medicaid Long-Term Services and Supports, 2021.”
