We Own This climate change
Good hump day tidings to you, Baltimore. First off, just letting you know that for the time being, we will be sending this newsletter roughly every other day, instead of every weekday between Monday and Thursday.
Otherwise, a few things you'll want to note: 1.) It's November, which means that we've launched our first-ever How I Got Here Month. As you'll see in Managing Editor Julie Zeglen's story below, expect us to expand the contours of our eponymous series on career trajectories to look at all the ways that people arrive in tech careers. From new apprenticeship programs to bootcamps to tech-adjacent careers and far more, we want to hear about it all. Check the forms hyperlinked in that article to share your story, and maybe we'll include you!
2.) You might've caught that Baltimore was awarded a $66 million grant from the federal Department of Energy to support the city's climate resiliency efforts. As part of that, Johns Hopkins University's 21st Century Cities Initiative will shepherd an integrated lab with specialists from area universities to determine best strategies. According to the Baltimore Banner, this is a multidisciplinary project that could help model how American cities are impacted by climate change. Someone on Technical.ly's #baltimore
Slack channel noted that the grant also includes tech components, like modeling software and measurement devices.
How do you think Baltimore's tech scene should be involved in this ambitious initiative? What're great companies working on this issue locally? Let us know by emailing
baltimore@technical.ly or replying to his email, and thanks.
