I probably don’t need to explain this to you, but the Trump era has been a hectic time for the news industry. Each day seems to bring a new deluge of information and stress as we try to cover the most frenzied time in our lives. I can tell you that I’ve watched the daily news overtake and even bury news stories that, in years past, would have garnered banner headlines. But whether we are due to return to a calmer era or continue on our path into the maelstrom, the hard lessons of the past few years have helped me keep focus on what’s really important: the lives of our readers, and how we can better them. Whether it’s by arming you with argument or information or knitting up your raveled sleeve of care with a story that brings you back to life, if only momentarily, my goal will be to bring you writing that you can profit from and take delight in, in equal measure. At The Soapbox, I’m going to keep bringing you stories that take a long look while everyone else only offers you a passing glance. I’m going to catch some of those stories that fall out of the headlines. And I’ll keep publishing some stories you couldn’t have possibly expected.
