Dear Friend, My desk at The New Republic launched in June, just three months after the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic. As the virus spread across the United States, life changed in radically different ways for millions of people. In the months since, we’ve tried to take a wide lens to the crisis in our coverage of the frontline workers organizing for access to personal protective equipment, the millions who lost their jobs and had to navigate the maze of our unemployment system, the people left behind in the stimulus because of their immigration status, the billionaires enriching themselves as their employees became sick and died, and the elected officials who have failed in every conceivable way to meet the urgency of the moment. These are heavy times, but I’m proud to be doing this work at The New Republic with a team of incredibly smart people who know that the stakes are too high right now to pull our punches or turn away. |
