Mr. Baird, who served as foreign minister from 2011 to 2015 for the Conservative Party government headed by Stephen Harper, called it “one of the greatest privileges of his life to work to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Canada and Israel.” Declaring the government of Iran “the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today,” he was behind Canada’s breaking diplomatic relations with Iran in 2012. In 2010, he was selected by MP’s of all parties as Maclean’s Parliamentarian of the Year and in 2011 was awarded Best Orator with Maclean’s stating that, “as a speaker, John Baird has uncommon energy, eloquence and range.”
Known for his amusing and insightful anecdotes about his encounters with Middle Eastern leaders, Mr. Baird now works “closely with international leaders to strengthen security and economic ties with the U.S. and Middle Eastern countries,” while serving as an advisor to international corporations. He is a board member of the Friends of Israel Initiative.
