Dear Friend β This Father's Day, we're sharing memories of The Forward and your tate zise from the nearly 200 stories that poured in from our readers. Here's a glimpse at just a few: Rubin Feldstein remembered how The Forward filled his dad's home literally and figuratively. "My father read The Forward every day that I bought it for him at the local store. When The Forward closed its Boston office, and sold the furniture, my father bought one of the desks and used it until moving to a smaller apartment," he wrote. Allyn Zygmud-Felt's parents got everything they "knead" from the same person. Longtime subscribers to the Forverts, their newspaper was delivered by the same gentleman who delivered the rye bread (no seeds) and bagels. Linda Galler remembered "the only time dad ever relaxed" was when he lay down on 'his' couch in the den and read The Forward. After he finished (and inevitably dozed off briefly), he would join his wife and they would discuss what he just read. They "loved The Forward because it was a connection to Yiddish." This Father's Day is a unique one for all of us. However you're celebrating, we hope these stories brighten the day of your dad, tate, abba, and all the father figures in your life. These stories are part of Generation Forward, our year-long campaign to make sure The Forward is here for the next generation of readers. If your father read The Forward or taught you the importance of fiercely independent Jewish news, make a donation to support The Forward today. Wishing you and your family a very happy Fatherβs Day! Sincerely, The Forward team |
