| These are fun times for LSU's basketball teams. Will Wade's men's team is 12-0 — one of just five undefeated teams remaining in Division I basketball — and Kim Mulkey's women's team is 12-1 with both inching up in the polls on a weekly basis. The women celebrated jumping two spots to No. 19 in the AP poll on Monday with their 11th consecutive win later Monday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. When LSU crushed Samford 83-47 before a nice crowd of 6,000-plus in their final nonconference tuneup, the Tigers had their longest winning streak in 14 seasons — dating to the 2007-08 campaign that ended in the Final Four. Mulkey's team begins Southeastern Conference play on Thursday night at No. 13 Georgia (11-1). Meanwhile, the men's team took one step up to No. 16 in the AP poll and remained 16th in the Ferris Mowers coaches' poll released Monday. The Tigers play their SEC opener at No. 11 Auburn (11-1) on Wednesday night. In news over the holiday weekend, former LSU defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr., who opted out of next week's Texas Bowl to prepare for the NFL draft, accepted an invite to play in the Senior Bowl in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama.
