Long-term work patterns should be redesigned as people live to be older and stay on the job longer, a Stanford Center on Longevity report proposes. I have long believed in the power of sports to teach young people important life skills, including mental toughness, teamwork, coachability and perseverance, among others. But the sport alone won't teach that. You must have the right coaches to guide those lessons.

So I'm all for the mentorship programs like the ones in today's Path to Workforce story aimed at supporting young female athletes. These mentors speak the language of sports and can provide important direction to young people trying to find their way into the professional world.

Are you using mentoring programs in your workplace? Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
