Merry Christmas!

It’s the most wonderful day of the year!

We are grateful this Christmas Day to share with you this photograph from Temple Square by the estimable Deseret News photographer Jeff Allred. We hope you enjoy it.

May you receive all the spiritual and familial gifts you prayed for this season, and may the Spirit of Christmas be with you the entire year ahead.

We pray your day has been merry and bright with hope in the Christ Child and for the promise His Atonement holds for all:

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelations 21:4)

What I’m Reading ...

I enjoyed scrolling through this selection of the most memorable sports photos of the decade by ESPN, especially since I plan to refer to the athlete in one of them, Usain Bolt, in a story I’m writing that is scheduled to publish the day after Christmas. The photos cover great achievements, iconic images, scandals and more. Of course, I enjoyed the three that celebrate the Red Sox and Patriots!

“This sensation of feeling like a fraud — despite having rightfully earned your success — is a problem for many high-level achievers all over the world. It’s called imposter syndrome.” This story cites BYU research about how to overcome feelings of inadequacy.

Here’s a great list of coaching and culture-building strategies used by BYU’s women’s running coach. I’m very impressed by her leadership of the women who placed second at the national cross-country championships last month. This tweet was one of my favorite parts.

Behind the Scenes

This field, with Y Mountain in the center of the background, is the site of the future Orem Utah Temple. Driving to and from the train station, I'd noticed people stopping by the site to walk up the short incline and take photos. So I decided to do the same to show the rest of you.
This photo shows the view to the west of the temple site, out toward Utah Lake. It will, as always with new temples, be interesting to see what develops around it. What develops in this direction across Geneva Road will impact the view of the lake from the upper floors. Directly north are condos. Directly south are older homes with large plots of land.
