Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! What an amazing and busy year 2018 has been! We have seen Coldest Nights numbers triple, a record setting distribution of cold water to our homeless on the streets, and the most calls for assistance. Overall, these increases translate into the need for more help and services for our homeless community.
With this greater demand for assistance, we have been blessed to receive an increase in volunteers. Five different groups dropped by the shelter to help clean or do laundry. In addition, the work of other volunteers’ behind the scenes has been beneficial in helping us deliver consistent services to our clients. Not only have our volunteers been a blessing, but also our prayer warriors and donors as well. We thank all of you for caring, getting involved, and making a difference.
If you were to survey our guests about the true meaning of Christmas, you would receive several different answers, but many of our clients know that Jesus is the reason for the season. This Christmas season, we will be both family and home to our clients who have no other place to stay. Food to eat, a conversation with someone who cares, and a warm, safe place to stay will give us an opportunity to help demonstrate the love of Christ.
As busy as this year has been, we welcome 2019 with excitement. Our new focus will center on securing property. This will be the greatest challenge we have ever faced. Because of this challenge, I am pleading passionately with you to pray for the MRM ministry and our success in getting a place to build a shelter. James 5:16 teaches us, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Prayer should always be our priority and, this year, more than ever.
As we come to the end of the year, please accept a heartfelt thanks from the Grimes’ family and the Board of Directors at the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission. Also, please remember a gift for Murfreesboro Rescue Mission. We are a registered 501c3, and your gift is tax deductible.
