Dear Friends,
I am delighted to share the news that Horace D. Ballard will join the Harvard Art Museums as our new Theodore E. Stebbins Jr. Associate Curator of American Art, effective September 1, 2021.
Horace is currently curator of American art at the Williams College Museum of Art, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, where he was previously assistant curator from 2017 to 2019. He is also affiliate faculty of the joint graduate program in the history of art at Williams College and the nearby Clark Art Institute. He is known to the Williamstown community as an innovative curator and dedicated mentor.
Horace attended the University of Virginia for his bachelor’s degree in English literature and American studies, Yale for a master’s degree in religion and visual culture, and Brown for a master’s degree and doctorate in American studies and American visual culture. He has previously held positions in curatorial, engagement, and interpretation departments at Monticello/Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Birmingham Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design Museum, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia; he has also held teaching positions at Brown, Rhode Island School of Design, and Yale.
Horace spent time with our collections while he was a graduate student and is thrilled to be joining us at this exciting time while we are rethinking and reframing our galleries and collections.
Yours,
Martha Tedeschi Elizabeth and John Moors Cabot Director Harvard Art Museums |
