Metro Council wants voters to approve changes to home rule charter

Does the East Baton Rouge mayor-president need their own attorney? Should the limits on Metro Council members’ salaries be removed?

These are among the changes to the city-parish’s home rule charter that residents will vote on this fall.


Northwest Atlantic great white sharks are known to travel south from the coasts of Canada and Cape Cod during winter months, but only a handful have ever been tracked swimming west through the Gulf of Mexico past the Mississippi River.

But several great whites have been tracked swimming deep in the Gulf this year.


BRQ in Baton Rouge serves a colossal slice of carrot cake that is 4 inches wide and 7 inches tall. Each slice generally feeds more than six people.

"It's a lot of cake," says Christina Nicosia, lead pastry chef at Louisiana Culinary Institute.

Changes to Baton Rouge home rule charter head to vote in fall

The Baton Rouge Metro Council moved forward Wednesday with a set of changes to the city-parish’s home rule charter, including giving Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome her own attorney and eliminating limits for Metro Council members’ salaries.
