I’m so happy to be back in Europe after a six month hiatus! I came here via New York City, a stop I made as the Lotte Palace Hotel is now offering tours of the iconic Villard House, capitalizing on renewed interest in the Gilded Age. The Villard House, for the unfamiliar, was one of the projects that helped launch the prolific careers of McKim, Mead & White. Then it was across the Atlantic via La Compagnie, my first time flying the solely business class airline. It departed from something I didn’t know existed–a sleepy terminal at Newark! Now I’m in hazy but beautiful Amsterdam to check out the new Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky.

This trip isn’t exactly a sunny and warm one, but our lead feature brings us warmth from Mexico. David Shortell has the latest for our It’s Still a Big World Series, from the central Mexican highlands of Guanajuato. While many, perhaps too many, tourists head to San Miguel de Allende, they may not know that Mexico’s up and coming wine region is just a nice day trip away.

Travel to This Lakeside City Full of Surprises with this Book

It’s a place that almost defies logic–a sleepy midsize city on a lake that somehow became a global center for finance, politics, and watchmaking. That beautiful city is Geneva, which is the subject of a new book from Assouline, Geneva: At the Heart of the World.
