Bills regarding transgender surgery and hormone blocker bans, birth certificate changes by minors and student pronoun changes passed all three readings on the Senate floor. They are now on their way to the House.
Supporters of the bills say they seek to protect children while opponents claim that the bills make transgender youth feel unwelcome in Utah.
HB215, which ties its proposal to increase teachers' salaries to authorizing school choice vouchers, made its way out of the House Education committee and a third substitute of the bill passed the House vote and is on its way to the Senate.
Amidst the legislative activity, Gov. Cox gave his State of the State speech on Thursday night and said, "The future of our state is not written in the stars. It is for us, the free men and women of Utah, to dictate our destiny.”
