Michigan sets voter turnout record — but turnout shrank in 8 of 9 Democratic counties |
Michigan voters unofficially cast a record-breaking 5.7 million votes in the Nov. 5 election — more than 100,000 more votes than the previous record, which was set in 2020. But not all counties saw voter turnout gains. About 26,000 unreported votes across four counties were added Friday to Michigan’s unofficial results, changing the apparent winners in some races. State officials said they’re not aware of any outcomes changing in races in Kent and Kalamazoo counties from the additional votes. However, the votes have the potential to change, and have changed, apparent winners in some county-level races in Calhoun and Leelanau counties. Looking ahead: The Democratic presidential primary is expected to be wide open in 2028. Some are already predicting who those contenders four years from now could be. What does Vice President Kamala Harris' loss mean for Gov. Whitmer’s presidential chances in 2028? |

DTE gas rates will climb as temperatures drop in Michigan this fall |
To know: As temperatures drop with the leaves this fall in Michigan, natural gas rates for DTE Energy customers will climb for the first time in three years. Michigan regulators OK’d a nearly $114-millionrate hike for the utility’s 1.3 million customers on Thursday afternoon. The increase, which will take effect Nov. 21, means the average household’s monthly bill will increase 2.28%, or $1.98, officials said. We’ve got another week of fall road construction throughout Michigan. More than 30 lane, ramp, and road closures along the state’s primary roadways are on the calendar through Saturday. Here are 10 to watch for. Speaking of travel: Detroit now has its own Monopoly edition. Detroit‘s Belle Isle ended up with the prestigious spot on the board equivalent to Boardwalk with Eastern Market getting Park Place’s spot. See the entire board from Go to Boardwalk here. |

Elon Musk sued by Grand Rapids-area attorney over $1 million prizes for voters |
A Grand Rapids-area attorney has filed a federal lawsuit against billionaire Elon Musk over his daily $1 million giveaway to voters. Musk, founder of Tesla and Space X, offered to give out $1 million a day in a sweepstakes in the days leading to the Nov. 5 general election. Participants had to sign his political action committee’s petition supporting the Constitution. Update: The Chinese student at the University of Michigan accused of illegally voting now officially faces felony charges after a Friday arraignment. Shooting: A man died in the hospital after he was shot by Grand Rapids police on Friday, Nov. 8. In body camera footage shared during a press conference, the man aims what appears to be a weapon at officers. |

Lions shock the Texans, come back to win with Jake Bates walk-off |
Wow: Jared Goff threw five interceptions, with the Detroit Lions falling into a 23-7 hole at halftime. But Goff became the second quarterback in the previous 15 years to lead his team to victory despite the tough showing. But it was Jake Bates who was the hero of the day, with a 58-yard make to tie things up, then the 52-yarder to win the game 26-23 as time expired. Thanksgiving halftime performer announced: Shaboozey will perform at Ford Field at halftime of the game between the Lions and the Chicago Bears on Thursday, November 28. Kickoff is 12:30 p.m. Reeling 'em in: A pair of Jackson-area high schoolers have been named on the 2024 Bassmaster High School All-State Fishing Team, making them among the best high school anglers in the nation. |
