"The Longest Silence" THIS WEEK we are happy to look back again at a piece of writing we first published on MidCurrent many years ago. "The Longest Silence" is the title essay from Thomas McGuane's 1999 book of the same name, a collection of remarkably lucid and evocative fishing prose. The essay recounts an episode when the young McGuane fished with one of the early greats of Keys guiding, Woody Sexton, at a time when catching a permit on a fly was most often a lucky accident.
INSIDE THE BOX: Kyle unboxes the Outcast Fish Cat Cruzer, a new float tube that packs a lot of utility into an 18-pound package. If you haven't given float tube fly fishing a try, we highly recommend it.
Eric Leiser’s Chuck Caddis is the subject of this week's featured tying video. Notes tier and videographer Tim Flagler: "If you ask me, it's the epitome of practical fly design. It’s extremely suggestive, has a straightforward tying sequence. Includes all natural, easy-to-find materials, and there’s no glitter or glue."
